Driver Licensing Assessments – Section 65

Talking Shop is authorised by both the Ministry of Health and NZTA to conduct Section 65 (Disqualified Driver) assessments. These are required when an individual seeks re-licensing following disqualification due to substance-related offences.

Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Initial Contact
Text or email Shane with the client’s full name, date of birth, address, and phone number.

Step 2: Form Completion
We’ll send a form pack for the client to complete and return prior to the assessment.

Step 3: Assessment Appointment
Assessments can be done in Invercargill or by arrangement elsewhere. They take approx. one hour and may include a lab referral for urine/blood tests.

Step 4: Medical Officer Review
Following lab results, clients will be referred to a Medical Officer or GP for final evaluation.

Step 5: Report Submission
We submit a recommendation directly to NZTA, which will notify the client of next steps — including any required treatment.

Alcohol Interlock Device

We are authorised assessors for NZTA to undertake the assessment to remove the restriction on your licence and have your AID removed. The process is similar to that above, and there are costs to you. Please contact us for more information.
